How much fear are you consuming? COVID Or NO-VID?

You are what you eat...and tune into.

For a long time, TV and radio shows in most places have used fear to gain our attention for ratings and to drive behavior for advertisers. What are the effects?

Today's latest crisis may give news organizations as much content and ratings as they had from the Iraq war, 9/11 and Justin Bieber combined. But that doesn't mean you have to continuously watch.

Are you aware that watching negative or 'fear worded' bylines, sub headers, scrolling updates, graphic images, viral videos and passionate proclamations read by news readers, can seriously affect how your body's immune system functions?

Is it time to take a timeout? For your sake and your family's? Can you engineer healthy break evenings for you and your family away from the news?

Just consider...you have a choice.

It is not preordained that you spend all day and all night digesting negativity and fear.

No matter how smart you are, no matter how savvy you are medically...the news takes a toll on all of us.

Take precautions for sure...clean off oft touched surfaces, wash hands regularly etc.

But also do this for a break or change...let others become experts on what the latest viral video showed 1000x over.

Become an expert on how to thrive!

What I am talking about is taking care of yourself and your needed 'whitespace'.

Whitespace is the necessary time and space one needs to perform, get rest and digest what they see in the world in a healthy manner.

Ways to create more whitespace in a crisis:

  • Practice music and silence periods.

  • Read books.

  • Watch videos that are educational.

  • Take up a hobby.

  • Go for a walk and get back to nature.

  • Practice yoga or mediation or prayer

Along with all the precautions read daily with the word 'Fear' underneath...make one of yours a timeout from digestion of fear. Your body, your community and your boosted immunity will thank you.

I wish you well.

Jon
